I recently listened to the smbtrendwire interview by Anita Campbell with Jim Kukral and I must say, I agree with Jim that you need to let your ego go if you want to be a successful entrepreneur. The biggest challenge in growing or developing a business is not money, it is the virtue that the entrepreneur values. Any self-respecting, successful businessman or woman would tell you that they too started from scratch, from the bottom rung of a ladder. What sets them apart is that they have enough belief in themselves and in their products. An important factor also is that they know how to learn from the mistakes of others and they do not hesitate to ask for help if needed.
The last thing you need to build a growing enterprise with an ego to match. As an entrepreneur, it is a well-known fact that you need to be armed with enough self-confidence to see the fruition of your dreams. It is important to be confident enough to overcome the risks and responsibilities that go with running your own company. However, once you believe in your capabilities too much and start undermining your company and those working for you, then that means your ego has reached the high heavens and that would be a liability which would negatively impact your business.
